Air conditioning manifold gauges with hoses connected in the engine bay

When to come in

  • The air conditioning cools less than a year ago
  • A musty smell from the vents when you switch it on
  • The compressor does not engage or runs loudly
  • The windows mist up even with the air conditioning on
  • It has been a year since the last service

What we do

  • Pressure and refrigerant level check
  • Recovery, vacuum and refill with refrigerant and oil
  • Leak detection with dye or nitrogen
  • Evaporator and vent duct cleaning
  • Cabin filter replacement
  • System repairs, compressor, condenser, pipes

Air conditioning loses refrigerant slowly, usually a few percent a year, so you only feel the difference after two or three years. Meanwhile the compressor runs with less oil, and moisture and mould build up on the evaporator. That is where the smell from the vents comes from, and it is the most common reason people come in.

We start the service by checking the pressures, because topping up a leaking system achieves nothing. If the loss is bigger than normal, we look for the leak with dye or nitrogen and fix it before refilling. Then we clean the evaporator and fit a new cabin filter if it needs one.
